Faves.
Dogs: Of course, I have to go with Windy City Eats, located in Weymouth is a Chicago transplant that serves vienna beef hot dogs that are imported from Chicago and placed firmly into a poppy seed bun. The owner, his wife and the staff are all extremely friendly. If you're a Nathan's hot dog lover, you might not enjoy vienna beef - but it's worth a try, especially the Bruin dog, Chili dog and Brazilian dog.
Sushi: I'm going to go against the grain here and say Yoki in Medford. Blue Fin, Porter Square, tastes better - I'll admit that. A few years back, I would have rated Minado higher as well - but the quality has dropped and with the introduction pre-made already formed rice to increase efficiency for buffet lines, I can't consider it a top flight place to get your sushi fix anymore. Haru in Back Bay gets an honorable mention but it's priced out of most people's budgets and not for everyone's palette.
Steak tips: Dom's sausage hidden away in Malden is well worth treasure hunting for. It has both a deli side and a butcher shop/freezer side. They offer catering as well but it has to be over $75 if I recall correctly (e.g. Superbowl parties, etc). Staff is overly helpful, which can get annoying if you're just window shopping but pick up a steak tip sub and I guarantee you won't even hear them.
Seafood: Captain Parker's down by the Cape. If you've got a chowdah craving, this is the place to be. Forget the Boston Chowda Co., this is the place for New England seafood. The only problem you'll find with this place apart from the price, which seems to be the norm for places on the Cape, is the bathroom/parking lot. If you have ever seen the general stupidity from the film, The Hills Have Eyes, you will find other patrons to be equally as stupidly infuriating. People peek between the cracks of the bathroom stall instead of checking for feet, they'll gridlock you in your own parking spot in order to steal it (how that makes sense, I don't know) and they'll block your path whether you're leaving the bathroom or the parking lot. If you're only after clams, Lobster Trap (Cape), is probably a better place to go.
Bake Shop: It's a tie between Kane's (Saugus) and Bova's (North End), which is open 24 Hours a day. The former is a donut shop while the latter is more of a traditional italian bakery. For dessert bakeries, check out european pastries from Madrid (Marlborough). For cupcakes, everyone knows it's Babycakes (Quincy). Nothing much to say about these as I don't frequent them really...
Health Food: Low Fat No Fat! aka Know Fat! aka UFOOD in Watertown. It used to be a bodybuilder's paradise, however... the place cannot survive on just bodybuilders alone - so now it's just a wholesome place to get lean, clean foods - connected to what is basically a pharmacy (well, supplement shop). This is the place you send your fat friends and tell them healthy food does not have to taste bland... then proceed to berate them as you would a puppy not house broken
Impromptu list I essentially thought up an hour or so ago, so it is by no means the end all be all list of great places to eat in Massachusetts..
Food so tasty... yeah, you'll cry.
